Hipot Tester Instrument Information
A hipot (short for high potential) tester is an electronic device commonly consisting of a high voltage source, a current meter and a switching matrix used to connect the high voltage source and the current meter to the contact points in a cable. It is a nondestructive test used to verify the electrical insulation in a device or other wired assembly that could subject someone to a shock if it failed, the opposite of a continuity test.

Common Uses
- Finding nicked or crushed insulation, stray wire strands or braided shielding, conductive or corrosive contaminants around the conductors, terminal spacing problems, tolerance errors in cables and inadequate creepage and clearance distances introduced during the manufacturing process in circuits which could shock someone.
