Melt Flow Indexer Instrument Information
A device used to measure the flow rate of the melt from a thermoplastic polymer. The device operates by placing a small sample amount of the material into a shaft. A heated tube with a calibrated weight is then brought into the shaft. The melted sample material is then forced through a calibrated die (typically 2 mm in diameter) while the unit measures the mass of the material to pass through the die

Common Uses
- Measuring the rate at with a thermoplastic polymer melts, done to help choose a material that can be easily formed into the intended shape, without sacrificing its mechanical strength
Common Types
- Velocity Anemometers (Cup, Vane, Hot-Wire, Laser Doppler, Ultrasonic, Acoustic Resonance)
- Pressure Anemometers (Plate, Tube, Pitot Tube)
Measurement Parameter
- Melt Flow Rate

Calibration Equipment Used
- Readout (Dial, Digital)
