Surface Roughness Tester Instrument Information
An electronic device which projects a beam of light at a fixed intensity and angle onto a surface (dependent on the type of surface being measured) and measuring the amount of reflected light at an equal opposite angle, known as gloss.

Common Uses
- Determining the surface roughness of machined parts, most commonly ones which will operate in contact with another part, such as pistons and engine cylinders.
- Controlling the manufacturing process of a wide variety of machined parts.
Common Types
- Type (Skidded, Skidless)
- Method (Contact, Non-Contact
- Scale (Ra, Rq, Rt, Rz, Rmax)
- Construction (Handheld, Benchtop)
